Possessing a voice described as “robust and resonant” by TheatreMania and deemed a “standout” by Opera Magazine, bass-baritone Tyler Putnam is in demand in a variety of repertoire. Upcoming engagements include The Pirate King in The Pirates of Penzance with Salt Marsh Opera, a role debut as Escamillo in Carmen with Gulfshore Opera and a return to Opera Tampa as Banquo in Macbeth.
 
Recent performances include Morales in Carmen with the Sioux City Symphony, a return to Opera på Skäret in Sweden to sing Oroveso in Norma, Vodnik the water-gnome in Rusalka with Gulfshore Opera and Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte with Opera Ithaca.
 
Frequently engaged to sing traditional bass and bass-baritone roles, Tyler has performed Oroveso in Norma with Opera Tampa and Opera på Skäret in Sweden; Colline in La bohème with Gulfshore Opera, Salt Marsh Opera, Lakeland Opera, and the Missouri Symphony; Sparafucile and Monterone in Rigoletto with Opera på Skäret and Gulfshore Opera; The Pirate King in The Pirates of Penzance with Opera Tampa, First Coast Opera and Salt Marsh Opera; Leporello in Don Giovanni with Gulfshore Opera; Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte with Opera Ithaca; Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte with Salt Marsh Opera; both Agent Ashby and José Castro in La fanciulla del West with Opera Orlando and Opera Omaha; Dulcamara in L’elisir d’amore with The Gulf Coast Symphony; Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro and Alidoro in La Cenerentola with Geneva Light Opera; Crespel in The Tales of Hoffmann with Opera Tampa; Masetto/Commendatore in Don Giovanni with Heartbeat Opera; Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor at New Hampshire’s Opera North; Pistola in Falstaff with Manitoba Opera and the Monk in Don Carlos with Sarasota Opera.
 
World premieres and musical theatre further distinguish the broad scope of his abilities as a singer and actor. He originated the role of Cura Viejo in the world premiere of Behold the Man with Opera Las Vegas and he received excellent reviews in Houston as The Commentator in Scalia / Ginsburg. In NYC he has participated in new composers and new works series with both American Opera Projects and American Lyric Theater. He was heard as Cox in the world premiere of Penelope Ann’s Revenge by composer Curtis Tucker, a sequel to Arthur Sullivan’s Cox & Box and he received outstanding reviews as Luther Billis in South Pacific at Opera North and St. Petersburg Opera.
 
An apprentice at The Santa Fe Opera for two seasons, Tyler debuted the role of Kobun in a workshop performance of Mark Campbell and Mason Bates’ The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs, sang Zweiter Soldat in Salome, and originated the role of Thomas in the world premiere of Jennifer Higdon’s Cold Mountain on the main festival stage.
 
Originally from Chebeague Island, Maine, Tyler Putnam is a graduate of Dartmouth College.
