Keeping the blog alive! I'm back in New York and eager to tear up this city. Stay tuned. Add Comment Donatello Green 08/10/2010
Something is wrong with the latest subway maps in NYC, and it took me four or five glances while riding the train before I figured it out: the color green has changed from a bright green to an olive. It's most noticeable in Central Park. It looks like Central Park is polluted or sunburnt. I'm not sure when they made this change; I've been gone for most of the summer. The whole thing reminds me of the Ninja Turtles. I was always fascinated that the four turtles came in individual shades of green. Central Park is now Donatello green Aston Magna 07/09/2010
Aston Magna salutes Pergolesi on the 300th anniversary of his birth with a "concerto di violino solo con più strumenti," the cantata Orfeo, and of course, La serva padrona, featuring David Ripley, Frank Kelley, and Kristen Watson. Home on Chebeague 07/01/2010
Between gigs for a week! Off to Annandale-on-Hudson next Tuesday for Chocolate Soldier. Until then, I'm at home prepping and relaxing. Auditioning tomorrow for a choral solo, but that's about it. Looking forward to eating lobster with family on the fourth of July! Movie: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo 06/21/2010

Only by the very end of the movie did I realize that the Kittredges were the main characters of this story, not Paul. Quite brilliant overall. John Guare wrote this screenplay himself. Someday I will read through the whole play and compare. I loved Stockard Channing. Movie: Robin Hood 05/22/2010
At Princeton's glorious little movie theater. It's banked with super comfy seats. Something was a little messed up with the audio, but overall, it puts the Nugget to shame. Sorry, Hanover, NH, but Princeton is way cooler in so, so many ways. Like Hoagie Haven. And Twist. Dirt Cowboy? Ben and Jerry's? Sorry, Hanover, but I've moved on. How was the movie? Oh. Pretty good. Nothing worth writing about really. But now I've got a new pick up line: "I'll need some help with this chain mail." I got a kick out of that one. Princeton, NJ 05/10/2010
Goodbye to NYC until August. I arrived in Princeton yesterday and will begin rehearsals for Threepenny Opera tonight. The Threepenny Opera 04/29/2010
At Boston College. Set in modern day London, director Stuart J. Hecht did a fine job of assembling his troops to create a stark and powerful rendition of Threepenny, though it did plod at times. The Threepenny Opera 04/21/2010
Perhaps the most striking thing about Hunter College's production of Threepenny Opera was their claim that the show was being performed by prisoners. The playbill was so convincing, featuring several fake organization names ("Prison for the Performing Arts is a member of the Corrections and Rehabilitation Corporation of America") and a jaunty fake logo with prison bars. I bought this gimmick wholesale (even though I couldn't find a website for Prison for the Performing arts on my phone...) and the "alienating" effect was tremendous! I was downright scared. It was a fantastic show. Decent singing all around, fabulous direction (Mackie seemed to have a fetish about keeping things clean: he would gently wipe Polly's face after offering a kiss.) I would have appreciated clearer diction from everyone, but overall a success. | Tyler PutnamSinger ArchivesNovember 2011 CategoriesAll |
